Chelsea want new deal for Loftus-Cheek

Chelsea plan to offer Ruben Loftus-Cheek a new long-term deal to avoid a similar situation with Callum Hudson-Odoi, claims The Sun.

Loftus-Cheek’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2021 and his future at Chelsea has been the subject of constant debate.

The 23-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth since emerging from the Chelsea academy five years ago.

Chelsea rate Loftus-Cheek highly but are yet to appoint a manager willing to thrust the England international into the starting XI on a permanent basis.

Loftus-Cheek made 21 league starts on loan at Crystal Palace last season and the Eagles had hoped to secure his signature again this term.

The powerful midfielder has instead been forced to make 17 league appearances as a substitute for Chelsea in the Premier League this season.

Loftus-Cheek has started more games in the Europa League (seven) than he has in the Premier League (five) under Maurizio Sarri.

Nevertheless, Chelsea are still keen on securing his long-term future and hope to tie him down to a new contract before the beginning of next season.

Loftus-Cheek has played a direct hand in six goals in 10 Europa League appearances this season and completed the most dribbles (39).
