Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to listen to offers for Chris Smalling with West Brom, West Ham and Everton among the clubs interested, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Benfica defender Victor Lindelof is currently in Manchester undergoing his United medical ahead of a £30.7m move and his arrival will almost certainly mean there will be one outgoing from Mourinho’s current defenders.
Marcos Rojo would have been the most likely candidate to depart at the start of last season but he was formidable before suffering a serious knee injury in April and isn’t likely to make a full recovery until the end of the year.
Mourinho has been left to decide between Smalling and Phil Jones and has opted to the idea of selling the former, despite the fact Smalling was picked over his international teammate for the Europa League final against Ajax.
Smalling has two years remaining on his current deal and could be available for as little as £15m this summer with a number of United’s Premier League rivals already interested in striking a deal for the towering centre-back.
Mourinho criticised Smalling after the 27-year-old missed six weeks of the season with a broken toe and the England international has recently changed agents in a bid to secure the best move possible this summer.
Since joining United from Fulham in 2010, Smalling has won at least 99 more aerial duels than any other teammate in the Premier League (406).
