Bayern Munich trigger clause to make Coman stay permanent

Bayern Munich have announced they have activated the clause in Kinglsey Coman’s deal from Juventus to sign the winger on a permanent basis.

Coman, 20, joined Bayern on an initial two-year loan deal in 2015 but there had been doubts over whether the Bundesliga giants would look to retain his services after dropping down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti.

The France international enjoyed a stunning first season at Bayern under Pep Guardiola but has struggled for game time this time around following the return to fitness from Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

However, Bayern have moved to secure the services of Coman for an undisclosed fee on a deal that will run until 2020.

“Kingsley Coman is an important building block for the future of our team, so we decided to take the option,” Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club’s official website.

“Kingsley is a hopeful player with great potential. We are convinced that he will help us in the coming years.”

After playing a direct hand in 10 goals in 23 league appearances during his first season at Bayern, Coman has only started eight Bundesliga matches this time around and only managed to chip in with two goals in that time.

Nevertheless, of players that have attempted at least 75 dribbles in the Bundesliga since the start of last season, only Borussia Dortmund ace Ousmane Dembele (1 every 20 minutes) requires fewer minutes per successful dribble than Coman (every 22.2 minutes).
