Wolfsburg sign Draxler replacement

Wolfsburg have announced they have completed a deal to sign Yunus Malli from Bundesliga rivals Mainz.

The Bundesliga strugglers have wasted no time in re-investing in the squad following Julian Draxler’s high profile switch to Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the month.

Valerien Ismael’s side have already signed highly rated Netherlands international Riechedly Bazoer and are reportedly close to tying up a deal to buy Rennes forward Paul-Georges Ntep, while Malli arrives as a direct replacement for Draxler.

The Turkey international enjoyed six highly productive years at Mainz and had previously been linked with a switch to the Premier League, but it is Wolfsburg that have won the race for the 24-year-old, who will wear the No.10 shirt at Wolfsburg.

“With Yunus Malli, we have won further flexibility and strength in the attacking areas, whilst naturally adding to the competition for places in midfield,” Ismael told the club’s official website.

“He is dangerous in front of goal, which is made clear by the number of assists he provides, and he also possesses quality from dead-ball situations.

“It’s also an advantage that he is very familiar with the Bundesliga and won’t need much time to adjust.”

Malli has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Wolfsburg keeping him at the club until 2021 and he will be required to provide an immediate injection to the club’s fortunates, with Wolfsburg only three points off the bottom three, although their problems were eased with back-to-back wins before the winter break.

In the last two campaigns only four players have registered more assists in the Bundesliga than Malli (10).
