AC Milan agree €38m deal for Portugal international
AC Milan are poised to make Andre Silva the second most expensive player in the club’s history after agreeing a €38m (£33.5m) deal with Porto, reports Football Italia.
Silva, 21, arrived at Milan’s headquarters on Sunday evening with agent Jorge Mendes to undergo a medical examination with Vincenzo Montella’s side.
The Serie A giants were heavily linked with a move for Chelsea striker Diego Costa in the last week but reportedly were unwilling to match his £200,000-a-week wages before turning their attention to Silva.
Porto are actively looking to sell some of their star players this summer in order to meet their Financial Fair Play (FFP) commitments and Silva is likely to be the first of many to leave the club over the coming months.
Silva has a €60m (£52.8m) release clause in his current Porto deal but Milan have successfully managed to take advantage of the growing financial pressures at the club to secure the highly rated Portugal international for a significantly lower fee.
The Serie A giants have already been extremely busy in the transfer market since being taken over by new Chinese investors and Silva would be the fourth arrival after Ricardo Rodriguez, Mateo Musacchio and Franck Kessie.
It would also make Silva the most expensive player in the club’s history since Milan shelled out £35.7m to sign Rui Costa from rivals Fiorentina in 2001.
Silva scored 16 goals and registered a further five assists in the Portuguese Liga NOS last season, while also playing a direct hand in six goals in eight Champions League appearances (four goals, two assists).
