Arsenal defender a doubt for AC Milan return leg

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi will require further assessment before deciding whether he is fit enough to face AC Milan on Thursday, reports the London Evening Standard.

The Germany international picked up a groin injury in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Watford and came off with 17 minutes of normal time remaining.

Laurent Koscielny was rested against Watford and will return to the starting XI against Milan but Mustafi faces a race against time to prove his fitness.

Arsenal are in the driving seat of their Europa League last 16 time with Milan after recording a thoroughly impressive 2-0 win in Italy last week.

The Gunners will have to guard against complacency after almost crashing out in the last round of the competition after comfortably winning the first leg.

Arsenal defender a doubt for AC Milan return leg

After beating Oestersunds FK 3-0 in Sweden, Arsenal fell to a shock 2-1 defeat at home in the return leg and Wenger’s side cannot afford to switch off like that against the Serie A giants.

Of Arsenal players that have made at least 10 Premier League appearances this season, Mustafi is their highest WhoScored rated player (7.44).
