AC Milan plot ambitious move for Premier League boss
AC Milan have made Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino their ideal candidate top replace Gennaro Gattuso at the end of the season, claims The Daily Mirror.
Pochettino has been heavily linked with jobs at Real Madrid and Manchester United this season but both European giants have looked elsewhere in their pursuit of a new long-term manager.
The Tottenham manager is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe and has warned the Lilywhites they need to start matching their ambition off the pitch on it.
Milan have been alerted to Pochettino’s potential availability and are reportedly plotting a sensational swoop for the Argentine with the promise of a huge summer transfer budget.
Milan could drop out of the top four by the end of the weekend after losing 2-1 away to Juventus on Saturday and Gattuso’s future at the club hinges on whether he can deliver Champions League football for next season.
Tottenham’s season has stagnated since Pochettino started being touted as Jose Mourinho’s successor at United in December.
The north London outfit were 10 points clear of fifth and only five points off top spot as recently as Valentine’s Day but have drifted massively since then.
Pochettino’s side are now 18 points off top spot and only have a slender one point lead over fifth heading into their final six league games of the season.
In fact, if the Premier League table started in 2019, Tottenham would be eighth and below teams like Burnley and Crystal Palace.
