Chelsea weigh up shock move for Manchester United target

Chelsea are weighing up a late summer move for Manchester United target Ivan Perisic, reports The Daily Mirror.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Perisic all summer but talks with Inter have gone cold since the Serie A giants jetted off for their pre-season tour midway through July.

Luciano Spalletti’s side have been holding out for just south of £50m all summer and news of Chelsea’s reported interest could well force United to match their valuation.

Jose Mourinho is keen for one more signing before the transfer window closes but could now face stiff competition from former club Chelsea, as Antonio Conte has demanded more new faces this month.

The reigning Premier League champions slipped to a shock defeat at home to Burnley on the opening weekend of the season and Conte has pinpointed several areas in the team that need addressing.

Perisic is reportedly on the verge of signing a bumper new contract with Inter, which would suggest neither Chelsea nor United have long if they want to sign the 28-year-old.

Of players that scored at least 10 goals in Serie A last season, Perisic had the worst conversion rate (10.6%).
