Manchester United deny agreement with Atletico Madrid superstar
Manchester United have denied reports claiming they have agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann in principle to a summer switch, reports The Press Association, via The Independent.
Griezmann, 25, has emerged as United’s top transfer target in the summer and United are reportedly willing to match his €100m (£85m) release clause in order to land the Frenchman.
United appeared to have moved a step closer to securing his signature after reports in France emerged suggesting Jose Mourinho’s side had struck a deal with Griezmann but the Premier League giants have moved to dismiss those claims.
However, the Red Devils do want to sign Griezmann in the summer but will have to overcome several obstacles if they want to land the Euro 2016 star at the end of the season.
Firstly, the fact Atletico still do not know whether they will be allowed buy and sell players this month as they await news on their appeal against a transfer ban imposed by FIFA.
Not only that, but Griezmann reportedly has an agreement with Atletico to see through the first year of their move in their new stadium, which is due to take place next season.
Griezmann has struggled to hit the same heights for Atletico this season than the dazzling form he showed at Euro 2016 and it is no coincidence that Diego Simeone’s side have also struggled this season.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman has still played a direct hand in 12 goals in 19 league appearances this season.
