Premier League confirm Ibrahimovic's departure from Manchester United
The Premier League have confirmed Manchester United will release Zlatan Ibrahimovic when his contract expires next month.
Ibrahimovic sustained a career-threatening knee injury against Anderlecht in April and isn’t expected to make a full recovery until 2018.
Jose Mourinho’s side signed Ibrahimovic on a free transfer last summer and had been working hard to convince the 35-year-old to extend his stay at United prior to injury.
However, United are now looking to sign a striker to replace Ibrahimovic after opting against offering the former Paris Saint-Germain striker a new contract and the Premier League have now all but confirmed his departure this summer.
Ibrahimovic has already received offers from a number of different sides but his agent, Mino Raiola, had revealed the veteran striker’s preference was to remain at United after they won the Europa League to secure their place in next season’s Champions League.
Despite only playing nine months of the season, Ibrahimovic has still scored more league goals than any United player in the last two seasons (17).
However, United’s over-reliance on Ibrahimovic was often their downfall last season. In fact, the United No.9 missed at least five more clear-cut chances than any other player in the Premier League in the 2016/17 campaign (18).
