Arsenal summer signing out for six weeks

Lucas Perez will be sidelined for the next six weeks after damaging ankle ligaments during Arsenal’s League Cup win over Reading on Tuesday, reports The Guardian.

Arsenal paid around £17m to sign Perez from Deportivo in the summer but the Spanish forward has struggled to make any impact so far this season following the bright starts made by Alexis Sanchez, Alex Iwobi and Theo Walcott.

The 28-year-old was given a rare chance to impress during their League Cup triumph over Reading but his evening was cut short after limping off after 72 minutes into their 2-0 win in midweek.

Scan results have reportedly shown Perez has suffered significant damage to his ankle and will now be absent through Arsenal’s busy Christmas schedule. As well as missing Saturday’s trip to Sunderland, Perez will not be available for crucial matches against Tottenham and Manchester United.
