Bournemouth have announced star striker Callum Wilson will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in training on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old missed almost all of last season after suffering the same injury to his right knee and scan results have revealed he is facing at least six months out on the sidelines.
“We are all devastated for Callum,” manager Eddie Howe told Bournemouth’s official website. “What’s important now is that he receives the support and love of his family and friends, teammates and everyone associated with AFC Bournemouth.
“Callum showed incredible character and determination to come back from a similar set-back last season and we know he has the same strength and will do the same again.”
The news of Wilson’s injury caps off what has been an awful start to 2017 for the Cherries. Bournemouth failed to strengthen their squad in January after Chelsea recalled Nathan Ake and failed to find a replacement in time to allow Asmir Begovic join the Cherries.
Not only that, but Bournemouth have not won a game in any competition this calendar year and must now make do without their best striker for the remainder of the campaign.
Of the 49 players to score at least 10 goals in the Premier League since the start of last season, only one player has a better conversion rate than Wilson (22.9%).
