Fenerbahce are closing in on the signing of Robin van Persie after the club announced they have opened negotiations with the player and Manchester United.
The Dutchman is tipped to depart Old Trafford this summer after an underwhelming season for United, where he netted just 10 league goals.
Big things were expected of Van Persie after an impressive World Cup showing under Louis van Gaal, but he failed to replicate his international form for his club.
Reports on Thursday suggested the 31-year-old had flown to Turkey to undergo a medical and the deal looks to be gaining traction after Fenerbahce confirmed they are in talks with the player's representatives over a move.
"Fenerbahce has begun to transfer talks with Robin van Persie and his club Manchester United.(sic)," the club's official Twitter account confirmed.
Fenerbahce are hoping to announce the transfer sooner rather than later, which would see Van Persie link up with Nani once again after the Portuguese winger recently completed his move to Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
