Villa and Sunderland chasing young Bordeaux defender

Aston Villa and Sunderland are interested in signing versatile Bordeaux defender Frederic Guilbert, according to France Football, via Get French Football.

Guilbert, 21, who can play at right back and at the heart of the defence, has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal with the Ligue 1 side and is yet to agree terms on an extension.

Villa are keen to strengthen their back line after conceding 76 goals in the Premier League last season and have already signed Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick this summer.

Guilbert completed at least 28 more interceptions than any other Bordeaux player in Ligue 1 last season (93).
