Saul drops hint over Atletico exit in 2018

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has revealed he will not leave the club as long as Diego Simeone stays as manager.

Saul, 21, has been frequently linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon after breaking onto the scene at Atletico in the 2014/15 season with roaring success.

The Spain international signed a new four-year deal in May keeping him at Atletico until 2020 and has committed his future to the club as long as Simeone is at the helm.

“As long as Simeone is here, no, I won’t leave,” Saul told Club del Deportista magazine, via AS. “When a coach has faith in you as much as he has and gives you that confidence, it’s vital.”

Simeone’s contract with Atletico was due to expire at the same time as Saul’s, but it was confirmed in September that the club had agreed to reduce his deal by two years to allow him to leave at the end of the 2017/18 season, throwing Saul’s future in the air.

Of the players aged 21 and under to have featured in Europe’s top five leagues since the start of last season, only Vincent Koziello (119) has made more tackles than Saul (108).
