Turkish giants offer Atletico Madrid a short-term solution for Costa
Besiktas are ready to hand Atletico Madrid a solution in their bid to re-sign Diego Costa from Chelsea by taking him on loan for the first six months of the season, reports AS.
Costa has been told he can leave Chelsea this summer but the Brazilian-born Spain international is only interested in returning to Atletico.
Atletico are also keen to re-sign the troublesome 28-year-old but their pursuit has been made complicated by the fact they are currently serving a FIFA-imposed transfer ban and cannot register new players until January.
With the 2018 World Cup fast approaching, Costa does not want to remain sidelined for the remainder of the calendar year and Atletico are now trying to find a solution where they can loan the striker out until January.
Besiktas have already signed Pepe this summer and the Turkish giants are hopeful that their relationship with Jorge Mendes, who also represents Costa, will work to their advantage in pulling off what would be a major coup.
While Besiktas are confident of completing a deal, there are still major obstacles in the way. Firstly, there would have to be a significant compromise on Costa’s wages as Besiktas wouldn’t be able to afford to pay them in full.
Not only that, but Atletico would seek to ensure Costa is left out of Besiktas’ Champions League squad as his participation for the Turkish club would mean he would be ineligible for Atletico when he returns at the start of next year.
Costa, who has played a huge hand in two Premier League-winning campaigns during his three years at Chelsea, has scored 52 goals in 89 league appearances. In fact, only four players have scored more times in that time
