Manchester United will speak with Juan Mata’s representatives this weekend about extending his stay at Old Trafford, claims The Sun.
Mata is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs after entering the final six months of his existing deal.
The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a summer return to Valencia but a move back to Spain is not at the top of Mata’s wishlist.
Interim United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Mata should be rewarded with a new contract and the club will speak with his camp over the weekend.
United are open to prolonging his stay but are keen to reduce his current £170,000-a-week salary. Mata has only started half of Solskjaer’s games in charge and netted once in that time.
