Monaco manager signs new three-year deal

Monaco have announced Leonardo Jardim has signed a new contract extending his stay at the club until the summer of 2020.

Jardim has spent the last three years as Monaco manager after replacing Claudio Ranieri in June 2014 and led the Principality Club to their first league title in 17 years last season.

The 42-year-old has been locked in contract talks with the Ligue 1 champions for the last few weeks but reports emerged on Tuesday suggesting he had instead agreed a mouthwatering deal to take over as manager of Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Guoan.

However, Jardim has ended any speculation about his future at Monaco after agreeing to stay for another three years.

“The confidence the club has shown me has always been essential to me,” Jardim told the club’s official website. “I feel part of AS Monaco and the Principality. I am therefore very happy to continue my work at AS Monaco.

“The last three seasons were exceptional, crowned by the title of Champions of France in May. We will therefore work with the ambition to continue this project and continue to grow this club with the same passion that has inspired us from the beginning.

“I am convinced that the future looks very exciting for AS Monaco.”

Monaco were one of three teams that scored over 100 goals in Europe’s top five leagues last season, with only Barcelona (114) and Real Madrid (106) netting more times.
