Manchester United complete blockbuster deal for Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United have announced the arrival of Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2024 with an option to a further 12 months.

The Red Devils have been locked in talks to sign Wan-Bissaka for a number of weeks and have finally agreed to make the 21-year-old one of the most expensive defenders of all-time.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling and an honour to call myself a Manchester United player and something I know that only a small number of players have the privilege to say,” he told the club’s official website.

“I can’t wait to get going and integrated into the squad. I will have a short break now after the European Championships but I’m looking forward to starting training with the manager and my new team-mates on the pre-season tour."

United are understood to have agreed a deal worth an initial £45m with a further £5m in add-ons to sign the England Under-21 international, who will reportedly pocket £80,000-a-week wages over the duration of his contract.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made signing a new right-back a priority this summer following Antonio Valencia’s departure and United have been pursuing Wan-Bissaka relentlessly since the end of last season.

United were hopeful of signing Wan-Bissaka for £35m this summer but have been forced to pay an inflated fee in order to land one of their top transfer targets this summer.

Wan-Bissaka is the second signing United have made this summer following the acquisition of Swansea winger Daniel James at the start of the month and now Solskjaer will hope to upgrade at centre-back and in central midfield.

Wan-Bissaka, who is currently away with England at the U21 European Championships, made more tackles than any other defender in Europe’s top five leagues last season (129).
