Newcastle keen on out of favour Manchester United man
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is keen to lure Luke Shaw to St. James’ Park on loan with the promise of regular action after the left-back was left out of Manchester United’s match day squad for their 1-0 win over Brighton, reports the Sunday Mirror.
The 22-year-old has struggled for game time this season, registering just 48 minutes of competitive action across two substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup.
Shaw is widely expected to leave at the end of the season, if not before then, and there won’t be any shortage of suitors, even with the defender struggling for action.
The former Southampton man has been linked with a move to Tottenham, where he would link up with Mauricio Pochettino again, but Benitez is hoping to secure Shaw’s services in the New Year on a short term deal.
The Magpies boss is looking to bring in a top quality left-back to bolster his squad and knows he’d be unable to afford to sign the England international permanently, but a short term move would benefit both player and club, especially with the World Cup approaching.
However, Spurs would undoubtedly move for Shaw should Danny Rose depart the north London side, with a switch to United on the cards for the 27-year-old.
