Tottenham confirm deal in principle for new club-record signing

Tottenham have announced they have reached an agreement a deal in principle with Ajax for the signature of Davinson Sanchez subject to a work permit and medical.

Sanchez, 21, has put pen to paper on a six-year deal with the north London outfit keeping him at the club until June 2023 after Tottenham agreed a deal worth up to £42m with Ajax.

Tottenham will reportedly pay an initial £28m with a further £14m in performance related bonuses, which would shatter their current club transfer record.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side shelled out £30m to sign Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle 12 months ago and Tottenham fans will hope their new record arrival turns out slightly better.

“I would like to thank the coach, management, players and fans of Ajax,” Sanchez told the club’s official website. “It is a great move for me to come here and to develop my career.

“I am very excited to be signing for such a famous club as Tottenham Hotspur I am looking forward to working with Mauricio Pochettino and the players and meeting everyone there.”

Since the start of last season, Sanchez is the only Eredivisie player to complete more than 2000 passes.

Furthermore, only Hector Moreno (7) scored more goals of defenders in that time than Sanchez (6).
