Manchester United make breakthrough in contract talks with star man
Manchester United are on the verge of securing Marcus Rashford’s long-term future after making a breakthrough in contract discussions, claims The Daily Mirror.
Rashford’s current deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2021 but United want to resolve his future amid on-going speculation linking the starlet for Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old’s priority has always been to stay at his boyhood club but the United No.10 did ponder his future during Jose Mourinho’s final six months at the club.
Rashford is a star reborn again under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has usurped Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order in attack under the Norwegian.
United’s hierarchy want to avoid another contract stand-off as they are currently experiencing with star goalkeeper David De Gea.
However, United are now confident of securing Rashford’s long-term future and could even hand the England international a new six-year deal.
Rashford will be made one of the club’s highest earners in the proposed terms and reflect his growing importance to the club.
Rashford is enjoying his best ever season in front of goal and has majorly benefited from Solskjaer’s appointment.
The United forward has scored nine goals and provided six assists in the Premier League this season and seven of those have come under Solskjaer.
