Manchester United forward suffers hamstring injury in training

Manchester United No.7 Alexis Sanchez is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in training, the club announced on Thursday night.

Sanchez was not selected in United’s squad for Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League and Jose Mourinho later confirmed the forward was not injured.

The Chile international’s relationship with Mourinho is reportedly at breaking point and his attempts to salvage any career at Old Trafford has taken a further blow.

Sanchez would likely have been restored to the squad to face Southampton on Saturday but United have now confirmed the 29-year-old will undergo further examination on his injury.

“During today’s training session, Alexis Sanchez sustained a hamstring injury, which will require further investigation to confirm its severity,” a statement read on the club’s official Twitter account.

Sanchez has only started five Premier League games this season and scored just one goal in 12 appearances in all competitions.
