England international set for more major tournament heartbreak

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a major doubt for the European Championship’s this summer after suffering a knee and ankle injury in their 2-0 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mirror.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 22, also suffered injury heartbreak at the 2014 World Cup where he failed to make a single appearance after struggling to overcome ankle problems picked up in the friendlies.

The Arsenal midfielder has struggled for form this season and appears unlikely to be fit in time to feature in England’s next two friendlies against Germany and Holland after he was seen leaving the Emirates on crutches following a heavy challenge with Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano.

Missing out on those matches would be a real setback in his ambitions to feature in France in the summer, particularly with Danny Welbeck returning his fitness.

Of players to have made at least 15 appearances in the Premier League since the start of last season, no player requires fewer minutes per successful dribble than Oxlade-Chamberlain (20.3 mins).
