Monaco have confirmed the appointment of former striker Thierry Henry as their new head coach following the dismissal of Leonardo Jardim.
Jardim was relieved of his his duties as Monaco boss on Thursday with the French side currently occupying the relegation playoff spot in Ligue 1.
Sitting just one point off the foot of the table, the Monaco board felt a change was necessary and have since confirmed Henry as the club’s new head coach.
The 41-year-old, who has been working as Belgium assistant manger since 2016, was heavily linked with the vacant Aston Villa job following Steve Bruce’s dismissal last week.
Villa elected to appoint Dean Smith this week as Bruce’s successor, which paved the way for Monaco to bring Henry back to the south of France.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona striker has signed a three-year deal at the Stade Louis II and said of his return to Monaco: “In the first place, I thank AS Monaco for giving me the opportunity to coach the team of this club which is so special to me.
“I am very happy to come back to AS Monaco and extremely determined to meet the challenges ahead. I can not wait to meet the players to start working together.”
Henry will look to end a three-man losing run when Monaco take on Strasbourg next week.
