Manchester United press ahead with move for £50m-rated midfielder
Manchester United are still intent on signing Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish this summer, claims The Sun.
Grealish has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season and is widely expected to leave boyhood club Villa in the summer.
United have been heavily linked with a move for the Villa captain for the past six months and have placed him above Leicester's James Maddison on their transfer wishlist.
Doubts were raised on Grealish's prospects of moving to Old Trafford after he was caught flouting lockdown rules in April and fined £150,000 by Villa.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received a glowing appraisal of Grealish's character and is still determined to bring the creative midfielder to United this summer.
Villa will be reluctant to lose Grealish and have previously valued the 24-year-old in the region of £70m.
However, their bargaining hand will reduce significantly if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.
Added to that, transfer fees have been tipped to tumble this summer as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Grealish has played a direct hand in 13 goals in 26 league appearances this season (six goals, seven assists) and is the most fouled player in Europe's top five leagues (127).
