Joe Hart has emerged as a surprise target for Sunderland, reports the Sunderland Echo.
The Black Cats were dealt a blow this week with the news that number one Vito Mannone would miss the next three months with an elbow injury.
Hart, meanwhile, has been told he has no future at Manchester City, with the 1-0 midweek win over Steaua Bucharest expected to be his final appearance for the club.
Everton and Liverpool have both rejected reports that they would move for the 29-year-old, while Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund had previously been linked.
Sunderland, though, have now emerged as surprise favourites to sign Hart, with David Moyes keen to strengthen his side’s backline before next week’s transfer deadline.
