Liverpool appeal severity of Mane ban

Liverpool hope to reduce Sadio Mane’s three-match ban after he was shown a straight red card against Manchester City on Saturday, reports The Guardian.

The Senegal international was shown a straight red card midway through the first half after his high foot caught City goalkeeper Ederson in the face.

Ederson was stretchered off and has since revealed the extent of his gruesome facial injuries, but Liverpool have appealed Mane’s three-match ban.

As it stands, Mane will miss fixtures against Burnley and two matches against Leicester, but Jurgen Klopp’s side hope to reduce the ban by at least one match on appeal.

Liverpool’s title challenge seemed to crumble without Mane in the team last season and it makes sense why Klopp’s side would look to try and reduce his ban.

Since the start of last season, Liverpool have won 63.3% of their league matches with Mane in the team compared to just 41.7% when the 25-year-old has not been available.
