West Ham United are working hard to sign Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson, confirmed the club’s owner David Gold.
Jenkinson, 23, spent last season on loan at Upton Park and the club are keen on tying him down permanently this summer ahead of a season that will potentially include the full Europa League fixture list.
The England international has dropped significantly down the pecking order at Arsenal following last summer's arrival of Mathieu Debuchy and the emergence of Hector Bellerin, and looks set for a move before the start of next season.
“We are working very hard to try and get Carl back here,” confirmed Gold. “We recognise this is an important season for us, being in Europe, and we will go the extra mile to ensure we have got the strongest possible squad we can muster.”
Despite being deemed a success at West Ham, Jenkinson’s performances actually declined at Upton Park compared to the season prior spent at Arsenal. At West Ham, he made less tackles per 90 minutes (1.2), was dribbled past more per 90 minutes (0.5) and made fewer interceptions per 90 minutes (1.2).
