Mourinho intervenes in attempt to keep Manchester United midfielder

Jose Mourinho has held talks with Marouane Fellaini in a bid to convince the midfielder to sign a new Manchester United deal, reports The Sun.

Fellaini will be free to agree a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs next month when he will enter the final six months of his current United deal.

The Belgium international has already turned down United’s offer of a new contract and Mourinho’s side are on course to lose the 30-year-old for nothing at the end of the season.

However, Mourinho is keen to retain the services of the former Everton midfielder and has even intervened in contract talks to convince Fellaini to stay.

United last offer was reportedly a two-year deal worth £130,000-a-week, which also included a clause to a further 12 months.

Fellaini has established himself as a key member of Mourinho’s United squad since the start of last season. In fact, United have a better win ratio in the league when Fellaini has started in that time (57.1%) compared to when he has not (51.5%).
