Kalvin Phillips has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal, Leeds have confirmed.
The club made a breakthrough over the weekend in negotiations with one of their prized assets and on Monday evening, announced that the midfielder had extended his stay at Elland Road.
“Leeds United are delighted to announce Kalvin Phillips has signed a new long term contract with the club,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a new five year deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2024.
“Over the course of the summer transfer window, Phillips was subject to high profile interest from a number of Premier League sides, with the club rebuffing multiple offers in excess of £20m.
“The club maintained throughout that Phillips would not be sold, with the midfielder being integral to plans for the future, and the immediate goal of securing top flight football.
“As a club, we are thrilled that Kalvin shares the same vision and potential for Leeds United, which has been demonstrated by committing his long term future to the Whites.
“Leeds born Phillips joined the Leeds United Academy as a 14-year-old and has progressed through the ranks, going on to amass 149 senior appearances for the club.
“He made his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in April 2015 and netted on his home debut against Cardiff City.
“Following the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa in July 2018, Phillips has flourished in a deeper midfield role under the Argentinean.
“Last season he made 46 appearances for the Whites in all competitions and was named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Year as Leeds finished third in the division.”
