Lukaku set for crunch talks with Manchester United boss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to speak with Romelu Lukaku in the next few weeks to discuss his future at Manchester United, reports The London Evening Standard.

Lukaku is in his second season at United since completing a £75m transfer from Premier League rivals Everton but has not hit the heights anticipated.

The Belgium international has dropped below Marcus Rashford as United’s first choice striker under Solskjaer and has even hinted at leaving the club this summer to move to Italy.

Given the sweeping changes that are forecasted at Old Trafford over the coming months, selling Lukaku does not rank highly among United’s list of priorities.

That isn’t to say United wouldn’t cash in on the 25-year-old if a suitable offer came their way, but Solskjaer hasn’t ruled out keeping the forward and plans to discuss his intentions with him.

Much of Lukaku’s future could hinge on where former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte lands this summer.

Conte missed out on Lukaku’s signature to United and instead signed Alvaro Morata but the Italian is now understood to be closing in on returning to Serie A with Inter.

Inter are expected to cash in on Mauro Icardi at the end of the season after stripping the Argentine of the club captaincy earlier this year and Lukaku is an obvious replacement.

Lukaku has hit double figures for goals in successive league campaigns for United but is on course to finish with his lowest tally in a single campaign since 2014/15 (10).
