Paris Saint-Germain midfielder denies contract breakthrough

Adrien Rabiot has moved to deny suggestions there has been a breakthrough in contract talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

The France international’s current deal is due to expire in 2019 and PSG want to resolve his long-term future by the end of the season.

Rabiot has established himself as a first-team regular under Unai Emery but the 22-year-old insists there has been no progress in talks about a new deal.

“We are nowhere, we have not had any discussions for the moment. Nothing has started,” he told Telefoot, via Get French Football.

“The club has not held discussions with us on those things [a new deal], so everything that can currently be read in press is false. There have been no discussions for the moment.”

Failure to sort Rabiot’s contract before the end of the current campaign would leave PSG vulnerable to losing the gifted central midfielder next summer.

With only 12 months to run on his current deal, a host of European clubs would be well within their right to test the waters with PSG.

Rabiot has completed more passes than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season (1,109).
