Liverpool star drops in Premier League form rankings following rare error
The FA Cup quarter-finals meant there were only five Premier League matches over the weekend, with few changes in our latest player form rankings as a result.
Crystal Palace and both Manchester clubs were among the sides involved in cup action at the weekend and there was no change to Raheem Sterling, Romelu Lukaku, David Silva, Wilfried Zaha and Sergio Aguero’s weighted rating as a result.
Rather than cutting into Sterling's lead at the top of the table, Virgil van Dijk actually went backwards. The Liverpool defender committed his first ever error leading to an opposition goal in the Premier League, on his 112th outing, in a 2-1 win away to Fulham on Sunday.
The Netherlands international drops one place in our form rankings as a result and is replaced in second by Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane. The 26-year-old’s purple patch has perfectly coincided with Mohamed Salah going out of form for Jurgen Klopp’s side. No player has scored more Premier League goals in 2019 than Mane (nine), who has netted six goals in his last six league matches.
Eden Hazard has dropped one place to fifth after Chelsea slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to Everton on Sunday. The Belgian was denied by the woodwork in the loss but garnered his lowest WhoScored rating in an away league game in 2019 (6.63).
The 28-year-old is even in danger of slipping further down the rankings, with Newcastle striker Salomon Rondon closing in. Rondon’s goals and assists have been worth 15 points to Newcastle this season. Without them, Newcastle would be two points above the bottom three.
Rondon scored his ninth league goal of the season at the weekend and has now played a direct hand in five goals in his last six league matches.
Finally, Everton left-back Lucas Digne is the only new face in the top-10 form players in the Premier League after helping the Toffees to a surprise victory over Chelsea at the weekend. Digne’s last five WhoScored ratings have all been above 7.00, with the France international registering one assist in that time. He has moved up 15 places in our latest rankings as a result.
QUALIFYING RULES
Only ratings taken from each player’s last six league matches are considered, weighted chronologically, with the most recent match carrying greater importance and so on. To qualify each player must have featured in their side’s last league game and started at least six of the last eight available.
