Bundesliga youngsters dominate U21 form rankings in Europe

Here we run through the 10 most in form players from Europe’s top five leagues, considering those aged 21 and under.

10) Rafael Leao (Lille) – 7.27 rating

19-year-old Lille striker Rafael Leao falls three places but manages to hold on to a place in the top 10 after Ibrahima Sissoko, Mathieu Cafaro and Vinicius Junior all drop out. Leao failed to score at the weekend but still has four goals and one assist in his last six.

9) Federico Chiesa (Fiorentina) – 7.30 rating

Federico Chiesa was the WhoScored Man of the Match in Fiorentina’s 4-1 win away to SPAL on Sunday. It’s the second time in his last six league appearances he has picked up the award and he has played a direct hand in three goals in that time.

8) Dwight McNeil (Burnley) – 7.35 rating

Dwight McNeil has been a revelation for an underwhelming Burnley side this season and has firmly established himself as a first-choice regular for the Clarets. The 19-year-old has garnered a WhoScored rating above 7.00 in five of his last six league outings, registering three assists in that time.

7) Nicolo Zaniolo (Roma) – 7.48 rating

Nicolo Zaniolo has been one of the big talking points in Italy so far this year after grasping his opportunity with both hands. The 19-year-old has played a direct hand in four goals in his last six league appearances (two goals, two assists) and impressively weighed in with 16 tackles in that time.

6) Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan) – 7.52 rating

Gianluigi Donnarumma is arguably in career-best form at the moment. He has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in Serie A in 2019 (27) and has kept three clean sheets in his last six league appearances.

5) Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen) – 7.57 rating

Bayer Leverkusen will struggle to hold onto Kai Havertz beyond the end of the season if he can continue this sort of form up until the summer. The Germany international has scored five goals in his last six league appearances and picked up his first WhoScored Man of the Match award of the league campaign at the weekend. He has increased seven places to sixth in the last week.

4) Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig) – 7.62 rating

Ibrahima Konate is a new qualifier in our form rankings and is straight in at number five. The RB Leipzig centre-back scored in his first league goal of the season in his last six league appearances and has impressively completed 31 tackles and interceptions combined in that time.

3) Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) – 7.70 rating

Kylian Mbappe has increased one place after netting his 19th league goal of the campaign last time out for Paris Saint-Germain. The 20-year-old has netted six goals in his last six league appearances, though only has one in his last three, which partly explains why he is only third.

2) Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) – 7.91 rating

Jadon Sancho couldn't help Borussia Dortmund break down Nuernberg on Monday night but holds onto his place as the second most in-form player aged 21 and under in Europe’s top five leagues. Sancho has three WhoScored Man of the Match awards in his last six league outings and has played a direct hand in four goals in that time.

1) Youssef En-Nesyri (Leganes) – 8.14 rating

There is also no movement at the top, with Youssef En-Nesyri managing to retain his place at the top of the form rankings. The 21-year-old fired a blank at the weekend, ending a run of four straight league matches where the Leganes striker scored or assisted. It also ended a three-match run of star man awards. The 21-year-old has scored seven goals and provided one assist in his last six league matches.

QUALIFYING RULES

Only ratings taken from each player’s last six league matches are considered, weighted chronologically, with the most recent match carrying greater importance and so on. To qualify each player must have featured in their side’s last league game and started at least six of the last eight available.
