Ligue 1 champions PSG dominate October team of the month

 

Champions PSG won all three league games in October, scoring 12 times in the process, and dominate the Ligue 1 October best XI. 

 

Goalkeeper: Alfred Gomis (Dijon) - 8.06 rating 

 

Featuring between the sticks is Dijon goalkeeper Alfred Gomis, who has impressed following his summer arrival from SPAL. Indeed, the Senegalese star makes the cut with a WhoScored rating of 8.06 as he made more saves (17) than any other shotstopper. 

 

Right-back: Arturo Calabresi (Amiens) - 7.22 rating 

 

Arturo Calabresi netted his first league of the season in Amiens' 1-1 draw with Nimes in a man of the match display from the Italian. Defensively sound, the full-back made 13 tackles and interceptions combined to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.22. 

 

Centre-back: Presnel Kimpembe (PSG) - 7.64 

 

The first of four PSG representatives in this XI, Presnel Kimpembe very much reinforced a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of 'passing' in October as he made more accurate passes (266) than any other Ligue 1 player. Factor in his eight tackles, eight clearances and seven interceptions and the Frenchman was deserving of a spot in the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.64. 

 

Centre-back: Yunis Abdelhamid (Reims) - 7.71 rating 

 

Reims were one of two teams, along with Brest, not to concede a league goal in October with Yunis Abdelhamid central to their watertight backline last month. With 12 clearances and nine tackles and interceptions combined, the 32-year-old makes the grade with a WhoScored rating of 7.71. 

 

Left-back: Denis Bouanga (Saint-Etienne) - 8.24 rating 

 

Rounding off the defence, Denis Bouanga has been absolutely expceptional of late as he won the WhoScored man of the match award in his three league outings in October. The 24-year-old scored one and assisted another for Saint-Etienne and completed more dribbles (15) to make the XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.24.

Right midfield: Angel Di Maria (PSG) - 8.32 rating 

 

Our Ligue 1 player of the month for October with a WhoScored rating of 8.32, Angel Di Maria's best display came in PSG's 4-1 win at Nice, where he netted twice in a perfect 10 performance. The Argentine had a direct hand in four league goals last month to help make the October best XI in France. 

 

Central midfield: Leandro Paredes (PSG) - 7.34 rating 

 

The third PSG star in this XI and the second of three Argentine players, Leandro Paredes made 14 tackles and interceptions combined in October and ranked third in Ligue 1 for accurate passes (215) in France's top tier last term as he gained a WhoScored rating of 7.34. 

 

Central midfield: Florent Mollet (Montpellier) - 7.67 rating 

 

Florent Mollet's stand out performance in Ligue 1 last month came in a 3-1 win over Monaco, where his goal and assist secured Montpellier all three points. Seven key passes was a commendable return for the 27-year-old, who came away from October with a WhoScored rating of 7.67.  

 

Left midfield: Max Gradel (Toulouse) - 7.86 rating 

 

Of the three goals Max Gradel has scored in Ligue 1 this season, two came in October as the Ivorian mustered 12 shots. He ranked fourth for successful dribbles (10) to reinforce a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of 'dribbling' and helped garner a rating of 7.86.

Striker: Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco) - 7.64 rating 

 

No player scored more Ligue 1 goals than Wissam Ben Yedder (4) in October as the Frenchman continued his blistering start to life in Monaco. The striker's two WhoScored man of the match awards was the second best return in the French top-flight as Ben Yedder gained a notable WhoScored rating of 7.64 to feature in this XI. 

 

Striker: Mauro Icardi (PSG) - 8.06 rating

 

Partnering Ben Yedder in attack and rounding off the side is Mauro Icardi. Like Ben Yedder, Icardi netted four times in October and had a direct hand in a total of five goals, that more than any other player in Ligue 1. All in all, the Argentine forward did enough to land a WhoScored rating of 8.06.
