Juventus vs Roma betting preview - Expect little glitz to Serie A’s glamour tie
A look at the table in Serie A would suggest that Juventus are steamrolling their way to yet another Scudetto, eight points clear at the top, while Roma are miles back. In fact, the Old Lady have accrued almost twice the number of points as the capital city club, yet the margins on Saturday are unlikely to be big.
Back-to-back 1-0 wins and five consecutive clean sheets prove that Max Allegri’s side are as defensively stubborn as ever, but it’s fair to say they aren’t the most exciting team to watch at present. With just one goal to their name in four of the team’s last five matches in all competitions, Juve aren’t really the dominant force one might assume right now.
Fortunately for the hosts, Roma have been pretty rotten by their standards all season and away from home they’ve really struggled. Indeed, since winning their first game of the campaign on the road - ironically in Turin - they’ve done so just once in seven league matches.
Defensively Eusebio Di Francesco’s side have been decent enough on their travels - conceding fewer goals (9) than they have at home (13) - but that resolve has come at a cost. Roma have actually scored more goals at home than any other team in the division (21) - a statistic for which Juventus only rank fourth (16) - but away from home the gialorossi’s tally isn’t enough to place in the top ten, plummeting to just eight.
There’s little doubt they will look to frustrate Juventus this weekend then in a fixture that hasn’t seen a great deal of goals in recent times. Each of their last three meetings at the J Stadium have ended 1-0 to the hosts, while Juve haven’t scored more than once against Roma in their last five attempts - six if you include the International Champions Cup (which you shouldn’t!)
A bet on yet another 1-0 Juventus win would return a tasty profit, and under 2.5 goals certainly looks a distinct possibility and, over evens with most bookmakers, is our tip for Saturday night’s clash.
