Liverpool vs Manchester United Confirmed XIs: Rashford misses out

 

Marcus Rashford failed to overcome a knock to feature for Manchester United at Liverpool today.  

 

The England international was forced off in the midweek FA Cup win over Wolves and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had given the youngster every opportunity to prove his fitness in time for the trip to Anfield. 

 

However, Rashford has failed to make the 18-man squad with Solskjaer springing a surprise in selecting Luke Shaw from the off in place of Juan Mata. 

 

The experienced Spaniard starts from the bench, as do youth academy pair Mason Greenwood and Jesse Lingard.

For Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has selected his strongest available XI as the Reds look to pull 16 points clear at the top of the table. 

 

A boost for Klopp sees Fabinho make the bench as the Brazilian looks to make his first appearance since being forced off after 19 minutes in their Champions League 1-1 draw with Napoli back in November. 

 

January arrival Takumi Minamino makes the bench for Liverpool, as does Adam Lallana, who scored the crucial equaliser in the reverse fixture.
