Chelsea star to end the season on high? This week's must-have FPL picks

Who are the best transfers for FPL Gameweek 38? 4-time top 1k and 5-time top 5k finisher Abdul Rehman uses stats, fixtures and the eye test to find the best Fantasy Premier League players with the potential to pick up big points and help shoot you up the rankings.

Ryan Sessegnon (£4.3m) – Tottenham

Fixture: Norwich (A)

Ryan Sessegnon has two assists for Tottenham this season. He has started their last five games and has scored the second most points (27) among defenders in that time. He is also nailed down to start now with Sergio Reguilon out injured.

Spurs come up against Norwich in gameweek 38 and this is another plum fixture for the north London club. The Canaries have been relegated, but this is the most important game of the season for Antonio Conte’s side.

Dean Smith’s men have scored just 23 goals (20th) with an xG of 34.42 (20th). They have been the worst attacking team by quite some distance. Furthermore, they come up against a very good defence in Tottenham’s. Spurs have only conceded 40 goals (4th) with an xGC of 44.2 (5th) and have a very good chance of keeping their 16th clean sheet of the season.

Sessegnon looks a great option for the last game of the season. He only costs £4.3m and is only owned by 0.7% of managers, so a great differential also. To some, he is the best defensive option for Spurs at the moment.

Mason Mount (£7.6m) – Chelsea

Fixture: Watford (H)

Mason Mount is having his best season in a Chelsea shirt. In 31 appearances the midfielder has 11 goals and 10 assists with an xG of 8.22 and he has created 56 chances with an xA of 7.2.

Chelsea have one of the best fixtures in gameweek 38 as they welcome Watford to Stamford Bridge, and this is one game that is likely to see plenty of goals. Roy Hodgson’s side have conceded 75 goals (18th) with an xGC of 64.1 (17th) and have nothing but pride to play for with relegation already confirmed.

The Blues have also secured third spot so there won’t be any pressure in terms of league position. They have scored 74 goals (3rd) with an xG of 67.12 (3rd) this season and will likely want to finish off the season strong and give their home fans something to cheer about. The bookmakers agree as they have Chelsea as the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (50%) for gameweek 38.

It’s clear Mount has come into his own this season and seems to be getting better in terms of scoring and assisting. He has beaten both his previous best tallies in attacking returns with a game to go. In addition, the England international averages 13.6 points per game vs the bottom three teams, with seven goals and four assists coming against those in the relegation zone.

Ivan Toney (£6.8m) – Brentford

Fixture: Leeds United (H)

Ivan Toney has scored 12 goals and registered five assists this season, with an xG of 12.66 (3rd among forwards) and he has created 43 chances with an xA of 8.3 (2nd among forwards). He has had a fantastic year in terms of output and underlying numbers.

Brentford end the season with one of the best fixtures of the gameweek. They host Leeds United in gameweek 38, who have had a season to forget. The Whites have conceded 78 goals (19th) with an xGC of 71.4 (19th). Only Norwich have been worse than the Whites at the back this season.

The Bees on the other hand have been good in attack and have scored 47 goals (11th) with an xG of 51.99 (8th). They have had no trouble scoring and they shouldn't have any problems here. This looks like it will be a high scoring game. Brentford don’t have anything to play for and Leeds really need to win this game if they want to stay in the Premier League.

Toney has a goal involvement of 36.2%, which is by far the highest for his team and he is their talisman. He is also the first-choice penalty taker and pretty much nailed to play 90 minutes also. What's more, the bookmakers have him at 52% to score at anytime.
