Defending champions Bayern dominate Bundesliga team of the month

 

Bayern Munich were the only Bundesliga side to win all three games in September and it is the defending champions that dominate the team of the month. Representatives of RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfburg also feature in the best XI of those to have featured in every league game in September... 

 

Rafal Gikiewicz (Augsburg) - 7.24 

 

Augsburg ended September with a 3-0 loss to Freiburg, but four points from three matches is not to be scoffed at. Goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz put in a series of solid displays across his three outings, making nine saves in total, the fifth best return. No shotstopper kept more clean sheets than the 33-year-old (2) to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.24. 

 

Lukas Kubler (Freiburg) - 7.43 

 

Speaking of Freiburg, Lukas Kubler occupies the right-back spot in this XI having garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.43 in September. The German bagged his first league goal of the season, that coming in Freiburg's aforementioned 3-0 win over Augsburg, but it was his work off the ball that pushed his rating so high. Indeed, no player made more tackles and interceptions combined than Kubler (15) to secure his spot in this XI. 

 

Konstantinos Mavropanos (VfB Stuttgart) - 7.62 

 

Konstantinos Mavropanos was a clearance machine in September. No player made more clearances than the VfB Stuttgart man (20) as the Greek centre-back went to great lengths to protect his side's goal. In addition, no player won more aerial duels than Mavropanos (15) in September to help nail down a place in the Bundesliga team of the month with a WhoScored rating of 7.62. 

 

Maxence Lacroix (Wolfsburg) - 7.41 

 

Young Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix partners Mavropanos at the heart of the defence in this XI as he won 11 aerial duels in September, the ninth best return in Germany's top tier. The Frenchman utilised his range of passing to good effect as he ranked third of outfielders for accurate long balls (21) to feature in the team with a WhoScored rating of 7.41. 

 

Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) - 7.74 

 

The first of five Bayern representatives in the Bundesliga team of the month, Alphonso Davies eased past opponents as is to be expected completing the third most dribbles (10) in Germany's top tier. The Canadian also registered his second assist of the season, that coming from four key passes in September, as Davies rounds off the defence with a WhoScored rating of 7.74. 

 

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) - 8.14 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.14, Joshua Kimmich is the Bundesliga player of the month for September. Kimmich had a direct hand in a goal in every appearance, netting three times and providing one assist as only two Bundesliga players directly contributed to more goals (4).  

 

Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich) - 7.79 

 

Kimmich's midfield partner for Bayern joins him in the middle of the park in the Bundesliga team of the month. Leon Goretzka earned a WhoScored rating of 7.79 in September as he put in a number of solid shifts in midfield, with one of his six key passes resulting in an assist, while eight tackles and interceptions combined was a solid enough return.

Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) - 7.78 

 

Christopher Nkunku has had a direct hand in just three league goals this season, but all of them came in September. The Frenchman scored twice and provided an assist in September, all three of which happened in RB Leipzig's 5-0 win over Hertha Berlin at the weekend. With six key passes and five successful dribbles, Nkunku is good value for his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.78. 

 

Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) - 8.05 

 

Bayer Leverkusen head into the second international break of the season second to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga with Florian Wirtz playing a key role in their lofty position. The teenager had a direct hand in a goal in every appearance in September, scoring three and assisting two; no player directly contributed to more goals than Wirtz (5). The 18-year-old's three goals came from six shots and two assists from eight key passes to help yield a WhoScored rating of 8.05. 

 

Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich) - 8.07 

 

The penultimate Bayern Munich player in the team of the month is wing-wizard Leroy Sane. Only a handful of players created more goalscoring chances than Sane (8) in the Bundesliga in September. In addition, the 25-year-old scored twice and provided two assists, while seven successful dribbles ranked 11th in the division as Sane features on the left with a WhoScored rating of 8.07. 

 

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 7.58 

 

Spearheading the charge is Bayern hitman Robert Lewandowski. His stunning goalscoring run may have ended in September, yet he was still on hand to hit the back of the net in wins over RB Leipzig and Bochum. The Pole was in confident mood as he mustered 11 shots, no player managed more, to lead the attack with a WhoScored rating of 7.58.
