Need to know numbers on Everton new boy Cenk Tosun
Having completed the signing of Turkish international Cenk Tosun, what should Everton fans expect from their new centre-forward?
We look through the numbers to analyse whether the 26-year-old is the missing piece to the Toffees front line.
A late bloomer by all accounts, Cenk only established himself as Besiktas’ first choice striker last season but his eye for goal had been evident for some time.
Signing for the Istanbul giants from Gaziantepsor in 2014, the forward would go on to start just nine of 47 league appearances in his first two seasons with the Black Eagles, but still racked up a commendable 13 goals in the process.
It was the 2016/17 season that saw the striker emerge not only as the leading man at club level but also for his country.
Very much a box finisher, all 20 of the goals that Cenk scored in the league last season came from inside 18 yards. In fact, all 41 of the Turkish Super Lig goals that the front man has netted for Besiktas have come from inside the box, including the eight he has already notched in the current campaign.
With that in mind, the Turkey international should be a good fit for an Everton side crying out for a focal point to their attack. With an abundance of attacking midfielders but only two strikers in the form of Sandro Ramirez and Oumar Niasse, a proven goalscorer has been sorely missed.
Of course the step up from the Turkish to English top-flight’s won’t be straightforward, but a conversion rate of 19.4% since the start of last season certainly suggests that Cenk has the pedigree to be a hit at Goodison.
