Kane replaced at top of Premier League form rankings for first time

The big news in this week’s edition of our Premier League form guide is Harry Kane is no longer in number one spot! Instead, for the first time this season we have a new face at the top of the tree, with Kane paying the price after Tottenham’s goalless draw away to Chelsea on Sunday. A new player at the top isn't the only change in the latest rundown of the most in-form players in the Premier League.

Before diving straight in, we must first remind you of the qualifying rules. As always, our Premier League form rankings are based on a six-game period, weighted chronologically with the most recent outing carrying greater significance and so on. In order to qualify each player must have played in two of the last three and six of the last eight available in the Premier League. Only ratings from Premier League matches are considered. Now, let’s get to it.

10) Ademola Lookman (Fulham) – 7.34 form rating

Kickstarting the top-10 is Ademola Lookman, who put recent penalty heart-ache behind him with a well-taken goal in Fulham’s 2-1 win away to Leicester on Monday night. Lookman has made a positive impact at the Cottagers since his summer arrival, if you can ignore his woeful penalty miss against West Ham last month. Lookman has scored twice and registered one assist in his last six Premier League appearances. Moreover, the 23-year-old has completed at least three dribbles in five of those six games.

9) James Rodriguez (Everton) – 7.35 form rating

Everton star James Rodriguez is back in the top-10 after dropping out last week. The Toffees slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Leeds at the weekend. Rodriguez returned five key passes against Leeds, the most he has managed in a Premier League game since the opening weekend. Rodriguez has no goals or assists in his last four in the league but it has not been for a lack of trying with 15 shots and key passes combined in that time. The 29-year-old still has four goals and assists in his last six.

8) Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – 7.36 form rating

Manchester City have not been firing on all cylinders of late but Pep Guardiola will hope their fortunes have changed after their 5-0 thumping of Burnley at the weekend. Kevin De Bruyne registered a brace of assists, and now has four in his last four Premier League appearances, to make our power rankings top-10 for the first time this season.

7) Pedro Neto (Wolves) – 7.42 form rating

With goals in back-to-back Premier League matches to go with his assist against Crystal Palace, Pedro Neto has emerged as a key player for Wolves this season. The 20-year-old has impressively boasted a pass success rate above 90% in four of his last six Premier League appearances.

6) Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) – 7.42 form rating

Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains unmoved in sixth place in our Premier League player form guide. The Everton striker failed to score against Leeds at the weekend but has four goals in his last six and has won 32 aerial duels in that time.

5) Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) – 7.64 form rating

After picking up a perfect WhoScored 10 rating at the weekend, Riyad Mahrez has rocketed into the top 10 and sits in fifth place. Mahrez scored a hat-trick against Burnley in Manchester City’s 5-0 victory to continue his fine form against the Clarets. Not only did Mahrez scored three times, he also set up six goalscoring chances for his City team-mates. 

4) Harry Kane (Tottenham) – 7.64 form rating 

Harry Kane has dropped from first to fourth after drawing a blank against Chelsea on Sunday. That performance replaces his display against Manchester United where he scored twice and provided one assist in his six-game spread, explaining such a fall. Kane has actually now failed to score in back-to-back games in the league for the first time this season but still has seven goals and assists across his last six.

3) James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) – 7.81 form rating

Southampton blew a 2-0 lead to Manchester United on Sunday but James Ward-Prowse’s stock rose further after another influential showing, assisting their first before scoring yet another free-kick against the Red Devils to double their advantage heading into the break. Fifth last week, the England international is now up to third and now has six goals and assists from his last six Premier League outings.

2) Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 7.84 form rating

Bruno Fernandes is the second non-mover in our top-10, cementing his place in second from last week. The Manchester United star didn’t have his best of games against Southampton at the weekend but was still on the scoresheet. Fernandes has now scored in three straight league matches and has played a direct hand in seven goals in his last six. Fernandes has scored and registered a key pass in every single Premier League appearance this season.

1) Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 7.96 form rating

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish is now the most in-form player in the Premier League after reaching 10 goal involvements for the campaign, with four of those coming in his last six. Grealish was streaks ahead of everyone in Aston Villa and West Ham’s meeting on Monday night. A return of eight dribbles against West Ham is the second most in a Premier League match this season. Across his last six league outings, Grealish averages 2.8 shots, 2.7 key passes, 4 dribbles and 5 fouls won.
