La Liga round-up: Barcelona trio top gameweek 3 ratings
Barcelona absolutely battered Huesca on Sunday, smashing the La Liga debutants 8-2 at Camp Nou. Huesca may have taken an early lead through Juan Camilo Hernandez, but that did little more than spark the defending La Liga champions into life, with the top three best rated performers of gameweek 3 plying their trade for the Blaugrana.
The star of the show was again Lionel Messi, who had a direct hand in four of Barcelona’s eight goals in the thumping victory, scoring two and registering two assists. The Argentine sensation has won the WhoScored man of the match award in two of his three league outings this term, with Messi returning a perfect 10 on Sunday. An additional nine key passes, more than Huesca (5) combined, and two successful dribbles helped push his score so high.
Hot on his heels this week was striking partner in crime Luis Suarez, who too earned a perfect 10. The Uruguayan has started the season slowly, but was hugely effective in the final third over the weekend has he scored two and assisted one, with his second goal coming from the spot. Messi sacrificed the hat-trick to allow Suarez to calmly slot past Axel Werner from 12 yards, while two dribbles and three key passes contributed to such a high rating.
Rounding off the top three top performers from gameweek 3 of the 2018/19 season is French winger Ousmane Dembele. The 21-year-old has been influential in the final third this term and churned out his best performance of the campaign as he gained a WhoScored rating of 9.53. He scored once in the win, but could have bagged a brace having struck the woodwork in the first half. The Frenchman also chipped in with two successful dribbles, three key passes and one tackle to cap off a fine showing.
Footing the player ratings this week, however, was Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic. It was a week to forget for the 27-year-old, who endured a nightmare performance out of position at right-back as he failed to make a tackle in Atletico’s 2-0 loss at Celta Vigo, with his second half dismissal capping off an abysmal outing for Savic, who gained a lowly WhoScored.com rating of 4.39.
