Man Utd star Fernandes joins Real Madrid legend in Nations League A Team of the Round
European champions Spain are the dominant side in our UEFA Nations League A Team of the Round, following their 4-1 victory over Switzerland on Sunday evening.
Also represented in our XI are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Croatia, Portugal and France. Here, we run through the team in full.
Nikola Vasilj (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - 7.72
St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj played a crucial part in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s goalless draw away to Hungary on Tuesday evening, as the visitors got their first point on the board in Group 3. Vasilj was called into action to make five saves, while he also made eight ball recoveries and averaged a 56% pass success rate.

Alexander Bah (Denmark) - 7.35
Danish wing-back Alexander Bah makes our Team of the Round following a strong performance in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Serbia. The Benfica man made three successful dribbles, four ball recoveries and completed 40 of the 47 passes he attempted on the night.
Ajax centre-back Josip Sutalo turned in a fine defensive performance in Croatia’s 1-0 victory over Poland on Sunday, with the 24-year-old making three tackles, five clearances and five interceptions, while also winning all six of the duels he contested.
Adrian Barisic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - 7.78
Like team-mate Vasilj, Bosnian defender Adrian Barisic was key as his side picked up the first point of their UEFA Nations League campaign against Hungary. The Basel centre-back made a tackle, three blocks and 11 clearances to ensure the visiting side left Budapest with a clean sheet on Tuesday night.
After providing an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo against Croatia on matchday one, Portugal left-back Nuno Mendes did just that again, against Scotland on Sunday night. The PSG man also made two successful dribbles, four tackles, five ball recoveries, and won nine of the 13 duels he contested.
Bruno Fernandes (Portugal) - 8.84
Joining Mendes in our best XI is compatriot Bruno Fernandes, who netted the equaliser for Portugal in what was ultimately a victory over Scotland. To go with his goal, the Manchester United captain also made six key passes, two successful dribbles, three tackles and four accurate long balls, in a vintage display.
With a WhoScored rating of 9.67, Croatia midfielder Luka Modric is our UEFA Nations League A Player of the Round. The 39-year-old netted the only goal of the game against Poland on Sunday evening, and in some style too, converting a wonderful free-kick shortly after half-time. The Real Madrid legend also made five key passes, three successful dribbles, six accurate crosses, five accurate long balls and six tackles, in an outstanding individual showing.
PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz continues to shine when he pulls on a Spain shirt, and the 28-year-old scored twice in Sunday’s dominant victory over Switzerland. Ruiz found the net with his only two attempts of the evening, while he also made four interceptions and three ball recoveries, for a WhoScored rating of 8.66.
Ousmane Dembele (France) - 8.81
Following on from one PSG star is another in Ousmane Dembele, who doubled France’s lead over Belgium on Monday evening with a fine strike. The 27-year-old also made five key passes, three successful dribbles and won four duels, to return a WhoScored rating of 8.81.
Making his first start for his country since the group game against Albania at Euro 2024, former Real Madrid striker Joselu wasted no time, putting Spain ahead against Switzerland after just four minutes. The 34-year-old then went on to provide an assist for Ferran Torres in the 80th minute, while he also enjoyed a fine all round display, winning 10 of the 13 duels he contested.
Rounding off our Team of the Round, and our Spanish trio, is Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, who was introduced as a half-time substitute in the win against Switzerland on Sunday. Torres ensured he made his mark during his time on the pitch, providing the assist for Fabian Ruiz’s second goal of the evening, before finding the net himself to truly put the icing on the cake for the European champions.
