Who Wolves can sign to replace Raul Jimenez

Raul Jimenez returned to Molineux last weekend for the first time since fracturing his skull against Arsenal over a month ago. The Wolves striker watched from the stands as his teammates battled to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham. After such a horrific injury sustained, it was just a relief to see Jimenez looking well but a timeframe on his return to first-team action is understandably unclear.

Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason ended up retiring as a result of a similar head injury and it is obviously going to take a lot of time to heal physically before even factoring in the mental side. Such a key component of how Wolves play, his absence has been an obvious blow for Nuno and it's not a surprise they have only scored more than once in just one of the subsequent six matches Jimenez has missed.

Nuno has confirmed Wolves are looking at bringing in a new striker in January and hopes the club can get a deal over the line as quickly as possible. So who could they go for? The obvious path to take is a Portuguese player with connections to Jorge Mendes. Diego Costa, albeit Brazilian-Spanish, has already been heavily linked with Wolves after his contract with Atletico Madrid was terminated this week. However, it's another Mendes' client, Andre Silva, that should perhaps be explored by the Premier League side.

Silva was heavily linked with a move to Wolves in the summer of 2019 after returning to AC Milan following a loan stint at Sevilla. Rather than move to England, the now 25-year-old joined Bundesliga outift Eintracht Frankfurt on loan before securing a permanent transfer in the summer. After struggling to really settle at both Milan and Sevilla, Silva has been a hit with Frankfurt.

Silva has taken off in 2020, with a return of 18 Bundesliga goals bettered only by the outstanding duo of Robert Lewandowski (32) and Erling Haaland (23) this calendar year. The Portugal international has netted nine times and returned two assists in 12 league appearances this season, making up more than 50 per cent of the goals Frankfurt have scored.
