PSG hero Mbappe leads Ligue 1 Team of the Season so far

In the midst of the international break, we take a look at the Ligue 1 team of the season so far. Brest are the dominant side in the XI, while PSG, Marseille, Montpellier, Lille and Monaco are also represented.

Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) - 7.04

Featuring between the sticks in the XI is PSG shotstopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has returned a WhoScored rating of 7.04. The Italian has kept nine clean sheets this season, that the fifth most, and boasts the sixth best save success rate (73.2%).

Achraf Hakimi (PSG) - 7.03

The second of three PSG representatives, Achraf Hakimi has once again proven an impressive attacking outlet for the French side this term with the Morocco international ranking top for both assists (4) and key passes per game (1.7) of defenders in France's top tier this term.

Leonardo Balerdi (Marseille) - 7.01

Featuring at the heart of the defence is Marseille's Leonardo Balerdi, who has earned a WhoScored rating of 7.01. The Argentine's return of 2.8 tackles per game ranks third of centre-backs in Ligue 1, while 1.8 interceptions per game is the sixth most to help make the cut.

Brendan Chardonnet (Brest) - 7.00

Brest are the dominant side in the Ligue 1 team of the season so far with Brendan Chardonnet doing enough to partmer Balerdi at the back. No team has conceded fewer goals than Brest (20) in France's top tier this term with the 29-year-old key to their defensive resolve having averaged the 16th most clearances per game (4.1) in the division.

Bradley Locko (Brest) - 7.12

Rounding off the backline in this XI is Brest left-back Bradley Locko. The 21-year-old is enjoying a superb campaign having struggled for game time following his arrival last January. 80 tackles is the most of any defender, and ranks second overall in Ligue 1, while 45 dribbles is also more than any other defender to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.12.

Teji Savanier (Montpellier) - 7.29

While Teji Savanier has just five league assists to his name this season, it's not for want of trying with the French midfielder ranking top for key passes (76) in Ligue 1. The Montpellier man is one to get the ball upfield quickly, too, having made the third most accurate long balls (157) of outfielders to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.29.

Pierre Lees-Melou (Brest) - 7.35

One of those pipping Savanier to top spot for most accurate long balls is Brest star Pierre Lees-Melou, who ranks first of outfielders for this metric with 169. In addition, the 30-year-old has also made the most tackles (84) in the division to secure a spot in the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.35.

Aleksandr Golovin (Monaco) - 7.29

Completing the midfield is the sole Monaco representative in the side. Aleksandr Golovin, like Savanier, has also registered five assists this season, the joint-fourth highest in the division, those coming from 48 key passes, that ranking sixth.

Romain Del Castillo (Brest) - 7.32

Only Edon Zhegrova (74) has completed more dribbles than Romain Del Castillo (65) in Ligue 1 this season, with the latter the fourth and final Brest star to make the side. The 27-year-old also ranks second for key passes (69) and second for player of the match awards (6) in France's top tier to return a WhoScored rating of 7.32.

Jonathan David (Lille) - 7.05

Leading the charge is Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canada international got off to a slow start this season but has sought to prove his worth in 2024 with 10 of his 15 league goals coming this year. The 24-year-old has been linked with a Premier League move and it is easy to see why.

Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 7.78

Leaving the best for last, Kylian Mbappe is unsurprisingly the Ligue 1 player of the season so far. The PSG star has scored more goals (24) and fired off more shots (107) than any other player in the league to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.78.
