Revealed: Benrahma makes list for best individual performances of Championship season

 

The regular season of the 2019/20 Championship campaign concluded on Wednesday night, with Charlton and Wigan suffering relegation heartache and West Brom securing the final automatic promotion place despite being held to a draw by QPR.

 

Before we turn our attention to the play-offs, starting on Sunday, let us first reveal the best individual performances of the season in England's second-tier. 6. Tyrese Campbell (Stoke) vs Huddersfield


On just his seventh ever league start, Tyrese Campbell exploded onto the scene with a stunning individual display in Stokes' 5-2 win away to Huddersfield on New Year's Day. Just after celebrating his 20th birhday, Campbell netted twice and was denied an incredible hat-trick by the frame of the Huddersfield goal. The Stoke youngster also registered one assist in the seven-goal thriller and completed four dribbles.

 

5. Josh Dasilva (Brentford) vs Luton

 

Former Arsenal academy graduate Josh Dasilva turned in a career-best display in Brentford's 7-0 win over Luton back in November. The 21-year-old scored a hat-trick and registered one assist in the rout, making up 28.6% of his goal involvements for the season. Against Luton, Dasilva scored three goals from four attempts and created two further goalscoring chances.

 

4. Matt Smith (Millwall) vs Nottingham Forest


Millwall striker Matt Smith finished the regular season with 13 league goals to his name and 23.1% came in their 3-0 win away to Nottingham Forest in March. The 31-year-old scored all three goals for the Lions, finding the back of the net with every attempt on target. He also won 14 aerial duels in a dominant centre-forward display and chipped in with three clearances to help out defensively for his side.

3. Nahki Wells (QPR) vs Cardiff

 

Queens Park Rangers started 2020 in sensational fashion with a 6-1 win at home to Cardiff on New Year's Day, with Nakhi Wells helping himself to a hat-trick in one of his final appearances for the club before joining Bristol City later that month. Wells scored three goals from four shots and also registered an assist in the rout.

 

2. Said Benrahma (Brentford) vs Hull

 

The outstanding individual of the 2019/20 campaign, Said Benrahma's display against Hull in February ranks second in our top five. The 24-year-old scored a sublime hat-trick in Brentford's 5-1 win away to Hull, managing five shots on target from nine attempts. In addition to his goalscoring feat, Benrahma also registered six key passes and completed five dribbles. The Premier League beckons for Benrahma whether Brentford are promoted from the play-offs or not.

 

1. Kieran Dowell (Wigan) vs Hull 

 

If Hull thought they wouldn't see an individual performance better than Benrahma's then they were wrong. Wigan's Kieran Dowell wins the award for the best individual display of the 2019/20 Championship season after excelling in an astonishing 8-0 win over the Tigers earlier this month. The Everton loanee scored five goals for Wigan after arriving on loan in January and three came against Hull. Dowell wrapped up his hat-trick with a goal of the season contender and also registered one assist. Dowell scored with every attempt on goal, registered a total of three key passes and completed as many dribbles in just 70 minutes on the pitch.
