Player Ratings: Uruguay 0-2 France - Muslera blunder hands Les Bleus semi-final berth

A closer look at the performances and explanation of the player ratings as France advanced to the World Cup semi-finals at the expense of Uruguay.

URUGUAY - 6.16

Fernando Muslera - 4.62 - Taking his place among the very worst howlers of the World Cup, the Uruguay keeper failed to make a single save and parried Griezmann’s goal into his own net.

Martin Caceres - 6.36 - Came close with a strong header in the first half but was poor in possession, and not for the first time, completing just 57.1% of his passes.

Jose Gimenez - 6.42 - Not the dominant or assured figure that he was during his first three appearances, with some wasteful long passing.

Diego Godin - 6.45 - Not at his best, struggling to exert his dominance in the air but did make four interceptions. Blazed over from close range in the first half.

Diego Laxalt - 6.42 - The busiest player in the backline, made some late challenges and after one early break forward on the left he was completely inactive in attack.

Lucas Torreira - 6.95 - Did his best to break up France’s rhythm, with four tackles and four interceptions but his passing was well below his usual standards, with very little to aim for in attack.

Nahitan Nandez - 6.54 - Another hard working display whilst offering nothing in attack. One long shot at goal straight at Lloris.

Matias Vecino - 6.05 - Difficult to assess what he has offered this summer, with very little impact at either end. Poor in possession and went missing in the second half.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 5.84 - Was supposed to be the midfielder that supported the attack but was unable to do so and as such offered little to the game.

Luis Suarez - 6.37 - Up to his usual tricks in the first half but faded out of the game and failed to attempt a single shot at goal without his partner in crime.

Cristhian Stuani - 6.17 - An utterly inadequate replacement for Cavani. Awful in possession, completing three of just 13 passes and wasting a big opportunity to counter in the first half.

Subs: Maxi Gomez (6.11), Cristian Rodriguez (5.82), Jonathan Urretaviscaya (6.11)

FRANCE - 7.26

Hugo Lloris - 7.45 - Had little to do for most of the match but produced a stunning save on the stroke of half-time to preserve France's 1-0 lead.

Benjamin Pavard - 7.86 - Was solid defensively, making four tackles and five clearances, but struggled to make a difference when France were going forward.

Raphael Varane - 8.39 - After a nervy start, Varane dealt well with the threat of Luis Suarez and then nodded France into the lead with a great header.

Samuel Umtiti - 7.02 - Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, making eight clearances. Knowing Suarez at club level seemed to help the French defender.

Lucas Hernandez - 7.37 - Spent too much time riding around on the floor and seemed reluctant to cross the ball. Despite being in several good positions, he didn't attempt a single cross.

Paul Pogba - 7.74 - After a quiet opening 20 minutes, Pogba grew into the game and seemed to enjoy linking up with Antoine Griezmann with nice one-twos and intricate passing.

N'Golo Kante - 7.16 - Carried out his defensive duties with aplomb, breaking up Uruguay attacks with a total of five interceptions.

Corentin Tolisso - 7.36 - Struggled to impose himself out on the left hand side and fluffed his lines when given the chance to score for France.

Antoine Griezmann - 9.04 (Man of the Match) - Made the wrong decision at times but helped inspire France to victory, delivering a clever free-kick for their opener and doubling their lead with a fortunate long-range effort.

Kylian Mbappe - 7.21 - Wasn’t afforded the same amount of space by Uruguay as he was against Argentina but still looked threatening with his pace, completing six dribbles.

Olivier Giroud - 7.58 - Didn't really have a clear shot at goal, but worked tirelessly off the ball and was a handful in the air for Uruguay's defenders.

Subs: Steven N’Zonzi (6.38), Ousmane Dembele (6.06), Nabil Fekir (5.95)
