We have decided to take the lead on this, and here we run through the top-five WhoScored rated players in League Two after six matches.
5) Aaron Martin (Exeter) - 7.54 rating
Age - 29
Position - D(C)
Exeter have made a thoroughly impressive start to the campaign and currently sit top of League Two with a two-point cushion on their nearest rivals. Centre-back Aaron Martin has played a key role in an Exeter defence that has only shipped three goals so far this season. The 29-year-old started the season with successive WhoScored Man of the Match displays and averages 4.8 clearances per game and six aerial duels won per game.
4) Alex Palmer (Plymouth) - 7.77 rating
Age - 23
Position - GK
Plymouth currently occupy a top-six spot in League Two and goalkeeper Alex Palmer has been a stand out performer for the Pilgrims. The West Brom loanee earned a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in Plymouth’s first game of the season after making nine saves in a 3-0 win away to Crewe before following that up with another WhoScored Man of the Match display against Colchester. The 23-year-old goalkeeper even has an assist to his name, coming in their 3-0 win at home to Walsall at the end of August.
3) Ben Richards-Everton (Bradford) - 7.82 rating
Age - 27
Position - D(C)
Bradford’s solid start to the season is in danger of unravelling after suffering their first defeats of the campaign in their last two matches. They currently occupy a mid-table position with eight points from six matches and it’s clear that centre-back Ben Richards-Everton has been a standout performer for the Bantams. The 27-year-old ranks both third for most clearances (56) and aerial duels won (55) in the division. The Bradford defender has impressively won the WhoScored Man of the Match award in four of their opening six matches.
2) Danny Rose (Mansfield) - 8.02 rating
Age - 25
Position - FW
Mansfield have only won one of their opening six matches and languish just three points above the bottom three, which makes Danny Rose’s performances in attack all the more impressive. The 25-year-old has scored five goals in the first six games of the season and has won the WhoScored Man of the Match award three times. His goals and assists have already earned Mansfield four points in League Two this season.
1) James Hanson (Grimsby) - 8.89 rating
Age - 31
Position - FW
If you’re looking for a target man in the English Football League then look no further than Grimsby’s James Hanson. The 31-year-old has won at least 32 more aerial duels than any other player in League Two this season (18.5 per game). In fact, Hanson is winning more aerial duels per game on his own than Carlisle are as a team (18.2). Hanson isn’t just holding the ball up to bring others into play but he is also scoring the majority of Grimsby’s goals. The veteran striker is one of three players locked on five goals in League Two and, coupled with two assists, has played a direct hand in 53.5% of the goals Grimsby have scored so far this season.
