Time to triple captain Salah? The top FPL tips ahead of the double gameweek

Who are the best FPL transfers for the upcoming double gameweek?

4-time top 1k and 5-time top 5k finisher Abdul Rehman uses stats, fixtures and the eye test to find the best Fantasy Premier League players with the potential to pick up big points and help shoot you up the rankings.

Kieran Tierney (£5.1m) – Arsenal

Fixture: Brentford (H) and Wolves (H)

Kieran Tierney has enjoyed a very fruitful second half of the season so far after a slow start. Since coming back from injury in gameweek 15, he has registered one goal and three assists.

The North London club have a great double-header in gameweek 26, especially defensively, as they take on Brentford and Wolves at home. Both teams have struggled in front of goal this season. The Bees have scored 26 goals (15th) with an xG of 31.5 (12th). Wolves, meanwhile, have scored 21 goals (18th) with an xG of 27.3 (16th) and have been one of the worst attacking sides in the league.

Arsenal have now kept 11 clean sheets in the Premier League this season; only Manchester City and Liverpool have kept more. They have conceded 25 goals (6th) with an xGC of 30.2 (7th). They seem to be improving more and more as the season goes on and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them earn back-to-back clean sheets this week.

The Gunners are also only behind Liverpool for clean sheet chances for the double gameweek according to the bookmakers. They are priced at 55% to keep a clean sheet against Brentford and 45% against Wolves. This means they have a 75% chance of keeping at least one clean sheet.

Tierney seems to be fully fit now, which has been a problem for him over the years. He has started every game since gameweek 15 and is clearly first choice left-back. The Scot is also the one most likely to pick up attacking returns in that Arsenal defence.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) – Liverpool

Fixture: Norwich (H) and Leeds United (H)

Mohamed Salah surprisingly has only one goal in his last five league games for Liverpool. However, it would be wise to just put it down to happenstance. He really is a must-own this season. He has 16 goals and nine assists with an xG of 16.25 (1st) and an xA of 8.55 (1st).

Liverpool play Norwich and Leeds United in the double gameweek in what is probably the best double-header fans have had in years. The Canaries have conceded 50 goals (20th) with an xGC of 45.2 (20th) and Leeds have conceded 46 goals (19th) with an xGC of 41.2 (17th).

The Reds have scored 61 goals (1st) with an xG of 61.4 (1st), so these are prime fixtures to use the triple captain on the Egyptian. He will be highly captained of course and most of those who still have their triple captain will use it here, and rightly so.

Jurgen Klopp’s team are also favourites in both games to score 2.5+ goals at 54% against Norwich and 45% against Leeds. There is no doubt Salah has been phenomenal this season and his underlying numbers match his output. He simply has to be your captain this week and if you have the triple captain chip then users won't have a better set of fixtures to use it in years to come.

In addition, Salah is also at 68% to score anytime (1st) in the first fixture.

Alexandre Lacazette (£8.3m) – Arsenal

Fixture: Brentford (H) and Wolves (H)

Alexandre Lacazette has three goals and four assists this season. He has managed 19 shots in the box with an xG of 5.15 and has also created 19 goalscoring chances with an xA of 2.72. He has started the last eight games and is now the number one centre-forward at the club following the departure of Pierre-Emmerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal also have a good double header in gameweek 26 from an attacking perspective. Brentford have now conceded 40 goals (16th) with an xGC of 36.8 (13th). The Gunners will really fancy themselves in this fixture as they are enjoying a good season, and will be looking to avenge their opening day loss to them. The North London side have had no problems scoring this season, notching 34 goals (6th) with an xG of 35.2 (7th).

Their second fixture against Wolves is a lot tougher. The West Midlands side boast one of the best defensive records in the league and have only conceded 17 goals (2nd) with an xGC of 29.6 (6th). However, with Arsenal being at home, they will still be favourites having recently beaten them at Molineux.

Lacazette has scored 39 goals and provided 18 assists in his last four league seasons. He is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, and is on penalties too. Also, with no real competition for his place now, he will get plenty of minutes in this double gameweek and beyond.
